The Role
I worked on in house tools. Learned a lot and felt really welcomed and useful :)
One of the team from the off. As I progressed they started using what I'd made which was really rewarding.
Kept getting in trouble for not asking for enough help. My manager and mentor were always there and encouraged me to talk to them and the others in the company, who were also always helpful.
I was encouraged to track my progress carefully and make sure I didn't get stuck with nothing to do, and almost of the time I had plenty of work but I rarely felt pressured.
My project was quite detached from the rest of the team's work, so I had a fair amount of control, more and more as I went along, but I didn't feel it was more than I could handle.
I think that the presentation and communication skills will be especially valuable, as will the technical skills - the work was new to me, even though programming was not.
The Company
Hard working but friendly, people were generally open for a chat. The office lacked a canteen, so making friends wasn't straightforward, but the atmosphere was always supportive.
Had a few problems with my PC but everything else was fine.
They gave me all the help and feedback I needed, and put a lot of effort into tracking and reviewing my development.

The Culture
We got on well, but people had a tendency to eat lunch at their desk.
I lived at home, so can't really comment. I know the company subsidises housing though.
See the above answer. The Fringe was on, if you like that sort of thing.
There were regular office activities but no sports I was interested in. I think some people did fitness-type sports.
