About You
This is the best placement I have done. It taught me a great deal not only about the work of my department but also about how welcoming the firm is.
Everyone in my team and in the wider firm was open and friendly.
On induction day the Graduate Recruitment team gave us a pack showing us how to set up our systems. Whenever I had a problem, my buddy, supervisor or frankly anyone in my team was happy to help.
My most important lesson was to focus on the primary objective. It is easy for the law student to dig into the legal minutiae. While those are of course important, they are all subordinate to the client's interests, which must come first.
The Company
The work-pattern was flexible, but the advantage of that approach was that it encouraged me to do my own planning and to communicate with my buddy and supervisor.
Friendly and hard-working.
The firm gave us opportunities to develop. For example, it supplied us with online IT guides, which made it easy to use the computer systems.
Many of my tasks were 'trainee tasks', so I saw what trainees do. I also got to see the work of more senior lawyers.
I was immersed in the firm for three weeks, and I got a strong impression of the culture not only from the office but also from the social events.
It confirmed that I want to become a commercial solicitor.
Everything Else
People at all levels were keen to meet the placement students. The trainees put on fun social events for us too.
They were fun and useful.
Yes. Pinsent Masons does a good deal of extracurricular work. I was particularly interested in FRAN, its programme of reading to primary-school students.
If anything about working as a commercial solicitor is unclear, come to Pinsent Masons.
