The Role
Was given a real project on a live trading platform. Part of my project went into production during my internship.
Colleagues were always happy to provide any help to questions I raised, and a few of them spent significant amounts of time on getting me up to speed with the project team I had been assigned to.
My manager and supervisor were both happy to help and keen to see what I had done. They always had ideas on how to improve certain aspects of the work I had done.
I was pretty much never bored (except for the last couple of days when I had completed my work!) and always had work to be getting on with. As well as that I don't feel I worked particularly unsociable hours, my work day was usually about 8.30 until 6pm.
Was given enough responsibility to go and complete the task I had been given.
Learnt about development teams working on mission critical software, as well as GUI development practices and agile development methods.
The Company
The team was mainly focused on getting their work done; everyone was very busy. However team members were always happy for a quick chat.
HR did a great job of organising speaker series, social events and further learning opportunities across the bank.
I felt like a very valued member of the firm already, and the company was always looking at introducing us to further learning opportunities that presented themselves.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Was offered a graduate job starting next year.
The Culture
The firm took on 400 summer interns so there was a lot of young people to meet doing internships across the bank.
London; so it was obviously pretty pricey.
London; which has a great range of bars and clubs.
A lot of additional sports events were set up in the intern community.
