About You
The insight event was two days long and aimed at students not studying law. Over the two days there were several activities including negotiating and commercial awareness workshops. These were great fun and allowed you to get to know other students.
Everyone was super friendly and made time to talk; during the 2 hour shadowing of a trainee, the supervisors and other associates also took time out to answer questions and have relaxed conversations.
The insight was well structured and supported by a variety of people within the firm, from grad recruitment to trainees, a partner and a retired employee who is now a consultant.
As the insight event was only 2 days long, there was not much time to develop many skills. However the lunches with trainees were useful for developing networking skills. The negotiation workshop was also a new experience for me and highlighted this as an area of the legal profession I would like to find out more about. Furthermore, the talk given by [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] on Brexit and the potential implications was of relevance to my degree in International Business Management.
The Company
Brilliant; the only shortfall for me was the repetition of a few things from the open day back in February.
The general atmosphere was relatively relaxed, particularly as the second day was one of casual dress. Everyone seemed to have fun and to get along well. The multiple activities (negotiation, commercial awareness, CV skills...) meant that each time you found yourself in a new group so everyone met everyone.
As this was only a 2 day program for non lawyers, the emphasis was placed on giving an insight into commercial law at Hogan Lovells, rather than developing skills we have already.
The 2 hour shadowing session was brilliant in giving us (non-law students) an insight into the true day to day life of a trainee within the firm as I found that it was more informal than a sit down Q & A session.
The shadowing session allowed me to see that the open door policy and family culture of the firm is true; not simply part of PR.
Incredibly. It has made me want to apply for a vac scheme and a TC at Hogan Lovells in the furture.

Somewhat incidental as to which trainee you were shadowing/ in which department...
Lunch was the main networking opportunity, limited to trainees.
