    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been a very enjoyable working experience/ placement. There are numerous ways and opportunities to learn and further develop yourself for example, joining the lunch and learn call/ reading interesting stuff via think40 etc. My placement not only has been a great experience but it has taught me many useful skills.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel valued in the company and by my colleagues. My colleagues and my task manager always like to explain how to do thing correctly. They are really supportive and always there when I needed them.So far, I have developed a great friendship with many of my colleagues. More importantly, I have never been in a situation where other IBMers are treating me badly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the time! This also due to the complexity of my role and a never-ending learning curve. My task manager always willing to explain and giving me education when I am not clear/ understand in what I am doing. Whenever I Sametime (a tool for IBMers to communicate online) him, he will instantly reply with his suggestions and guidance on how to do things better. He always shares his expertise/ knowledge.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There are a mixed cycles of the level of work in the pipeline coming to us. Sometimes we are really busy prioritizing through many different pricing requests in a timely manner. However, periods maybe quite quiet and only few things due in to us.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A good level of responsibility I've been given over the year for example, maintaining pricing work while my manager is not around, dealing with some complex pricing tasks etc.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed over the year with IBM will be extremely useful in helping me with my degree and with my future career. I have improved written communication skill enormously. Organisational and problem solving skills have also improved.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I mostly working remotely. However, when I have to be in the office I always enjoy myself and it's good to have a chance to talk to my manager face-to-face or even to say hi!

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. There were 2 days induction days right at the start of my placement. There was a workshop day I attended in March. It was very useful with loads of learning opportunities and talks of my own choice to attend.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think IBM offers a lot of self-training, which is available via Think40. I can always ask to shadow someone in a company in the area I'm interested in.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • My base location is in Portsmouth (North Harbour). The cost of living is not too expensive. To get a taxi (or Uber) is really really cheap. Food is reasonable and most in restaurants you can bring your own drink! (never seen this before).

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I don't go clubbing. Also having said this I went once with other interns and it was ok.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Depending on what you like to do. I haven't myself done a lot of activities outside of work but I'm sure there are some available.
