The Role
Very enjoyable placement! One of the friendliest company's around and so I enjoyed the people and the work a huge amount. 3M is a cool company with some very interesting technologies. Not 10/10 as there are some mundane process work (that everyone is doing, not left for the intern>)
Complete ownership of products and segments. More responsibility the more I proved my capabilities. Treated as an equal employee in all sense. I have no doubt I am valued highly
Lots of fantastic support, not just from your team but also from HR, training and development programmes etc. However, sometimes you need to learn for yourself as people are busy - but this is part of the learning.
I controlled my workload and so I could tailor it to suit me. I like to have lots to do so I took on more work.
I couldn't imagine the level of responsibility I'd get. Marketing lead in the UK for a segment and product groups. I had my own budget and targets and decided how to achieve them. I could take initiative to do research in other areas in improving a process etc. The only restriction on the level of responsibility is your ability and how you show it.
A huge learning opportunity for business, people skills, working skills etc. Again, lots of opportunities to learn and the only restriction is how much effort you put in.
The Company
Very friendly and relaxed. Everyone gets on, no set start or end times. Everyone works very hard, but understand the need for breaks, to not overwork or be stressed. One of the best environments you could find, especially in such a large company.
Very well organised with additional training programs. However, a couple of event cancellations here and there, but nothing too bad. Good program to meet other students from business and science roles.
There is a lot on offer, for a lot of it, you need to put in the effort. There are some mandatory training sessions, however, there is always the opportunity to learn more.

Very! It's a fantastic company
The Culture
Yes, many house share. Try to keep active with pub lunches, evening food etc
Cost of living is high (only because I'm from the north), cheaper than London area. Salary is enough to cover all costs fine. Socialising is what you make of it and where you choose to live. Standard area with a university.
The area of the offices has no night life, but most people live in reading which is better, with many places and a university to liven it up .
Plenty of sport and social clubs - I even started one of my own!
