    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 weeks. The work was interesting, the people were all lovely and welcomed me into the team and the atmosphere in the scheme was generally a good one, with a great working environment. I could have definitely done more time at Taylor Wessing, and hopefully may do in the future.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Although the work I was doing itself was not important to tge completion of cases or deals, I felt valied through the amount of 'looking after' we got. Luncg was provided where possible, HR checked up on us often to see how we were getting on and in general it felt like the firm valued our two weeks there and really did want us to be there.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My buddys and supervisors both supported me throughout the period. They gave me ample work, explained cleaely what needed to be done and then went through the work after I had completed, highlighting any errors or places where I could have improved. As well as this, they were always open to me coming and asking questions if I was ever uclear on any aspect of the scheme.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills developed to work in a law firm are transferrable to uni life in some way. Teamwork is always helpful and clear communication in particular is a useful skill to have, one that can be used in tutorials and revision sessions. However where they are more useful is past uni, where I have already had a flavour of what life on a law firm is. This i can hopefully take to an actual career in law and already have a basic level of skill required to operate in the workplace.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • There was a clear structure and timetable, setting out exactly what was happening across the 2 weeks. Sessions were layed on on most days from departments to ensure we got a flavour of what went on in all departments of the firm, not just the 2 we were sitting in during our time here. As well as this they put o lunches and meetings where we had opportunities to meet senior associates and partners, something ee may not have been able to do ourselves.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was great. Everybody was friendly and helpful, always ready to assist me if I had questions about my work or just firm life in general. The amount of times I was told 'don't worry about bothering us just come on in and ask anything you like' was brilliant. It was a fantastic working atmosphere and one I could definitely see myself in in the future.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They put on talks about each department, mesning we got a broad overview of what goes on in the firm in a wider context, not just what happens in our individual departments. Just going on the scheme in general developed my personal skills as well. Operating in a business environment for 2 weeks allowed me to develop business skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It gave me a good insight into what ot would be like working at Taylpr Wessing, both through how the firm operates day to day and also what the people there get up to. Although we weren't given very important or challenging work, I still found it interesting which is good, and could for sure see myself working at the firm, since I really enjoyed the experience in that environment.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It wss clear to see the company culture. Taylor Wessing's four values came across well across the 2 weeks, to the point where at the final lunch woth partners we were each split up onto 4 tables, esch of which wss given a different value to talk about where we had seen that value in life across the past 2 weeks. They clesrly drive the operation of the company and it was cesr to see.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was very valuable. It really confirmed my choice in a career in law. It showed me that this is what i want to do for a living.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Living in London, what I was givien more than covered my travel costs. However for those outside London who had to rent a room, I believe the money did not really cover their total expenses.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Social events were put on, where we got the chance to meet most of the trainees and chat to them abouy life in Taylor Wessing. Also there were welcome and leaving drinks where partners and associates could also attend, meaning we could find out the viewpoint from higher up the ladder in the firm. Finally there was also a partner lynch provided where we effectively had one-on-one chats with partners which wss really useful.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • As well as the social events put on for us by the trainee team, I also had the opportunity to go and play touch rugby with an associate and a couple of others from Taylor Wessing. This was a great chanve for me to meet some new people and have fun outside the office as well.
