The Role
I have enjoyed my placement due to the fact there is a good IP community, I had a good manager, colleagues as well as being able to be involved in many major projects working with colleagues from around the globe.
I felt valued since sometimes I received compliments for the work I completed.
I worked for two managers, one of which is not in the UK. I received support and guidance from both my managers which gave me the independence of working like a full time employee in my last 6 months.
It was on and off, some days I had a lot to do. Some days I had not as much so I got to have some spare time to do some additional training using GSK resources.
I was given more responsibility during the second half of my placement where I worked independently with many stakeholders which meant I had to be responsible in representing my department in meetings and the tasks coming out of the meetings.
I developed a lot of technical skills through the usage of the vast amount of software and tools GSK uses. Not only technical skills, but transferable skills also which include improving my presenting skills, problem solving, analytical skills, etc.
The Company
General atmosphere in the office is very nice, everyone knows everyone and there is always cake in the kitchen. Also whenever, there is an event, for example pancake day, there would be a stack full of pancakes in the kitchen for all. Which meant we could also celebrate those events at work.
The overall work placement was organised well, however, at the start, I was not really told what work/projects I will be undertaking since the previous IP's work has finished.
Quite a lot. There was a lot of paid training courses available for us to undertake, for example the Harvard training courses.

Working from home
Not very, because there are no technical IT graduate roles. There is only business related / project management type of roles and I am doing computer science degree.
The Culture
Yes, we have a designated IP table for lunch. Also we organised a lot of IP events throughout the year.
I lived at home, commuting from London to work. £30 petrol per week. Socialising in the area is the same costs as London.
I was situated in the Stevenage site so nightlife was nil. However, there is a leisure park consisting of several restaurants and a cinema.
Yes there are many activities, e.g. mini golf, cinema, bowling, restaurants, etc.
