The Role
I enjoyed working with the people at the Fradley plant and most of the day to day work but some of the time there was work which was either boring or monotonous but that's every job I suppose.
I believe I became a valuable part of the team throughout my time and that others began to rely on me towards the end.
Lots of support when needed however my manager left after 4 months, luckily others in the department stepped up to assist me.
Some slow days at the beginning but by the end I barely had a free half hour due to upcoming project work.
After a PPQL left I was essentially in charge of the 18MY projects at our plant which came with lots of pressure from other departments.
Lots of transferable skills gained and lots of industry experience which will be very useful when looking for jobs after finishing my uni degree
The Company
Lots of great people in the office to work with every day and there is always other interns starting at the same time so its easy to start friendships because theyre in the exact same situation as you.
Could have been much more structured but due to the nature of the role it was hard to describe the jobs that Id be partaking. I would struggle to describe what next year's interns would do even after 12 months due to the changing role that I am in
Almost no training was invested, other interns would have greatly benefited from training for IOS audits however my particular role would be difficult to give training to without it being a very expensive course for someone staying for just the 1 year.
Opportunities to work abroad after doing a placement through the VIE scheme as well as graduate roles available to those interested in doing a masters that is funded by the company.
The Culture
Yes, with 2 plants in Fradley there were around 15 interns in total meaning that there were lots of others to hang out with. There was also some limited time spent with other workers for birthday meals or leaving drinks and the like.
Faurecia put us in touch with other interns to share a house with which cut down costs straight away but in general Lichfield/ Fradley isn't a very student based area so we had to travel to the cinema or to activities in nearby areas.
Very poor nightlife other than friends houses where we could socialise very easily after work. Almost no bars that were cheap enough for students to enjoy on a night out
Yes, we started a 6-a-side football team with other interns from the Fradley plants and played in a local league every Monday. There was also local sports teams that were very welcoming if you wanted to get involved such as football, cricket and hockey.
