The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. The team I worked with was wonderful. I don't study HR but I believe I gained more HR experience than anyone that studies HR. It was a hard job having to learn everything and especially because of the plant, but it was very rewarding.
I felt valued from my team and most people around me. I was accepted as a valuable member of the plant instead of just a student. Of course there were some moments when I wish my efforts were more appreciated, but those moments were not many.
My manager and my whole team supported me throughout the whole year with everything I needed. Also, I had the chance to communicate with the rest of the managers in the plan which helped me understand the whole processes much better!
Most of the days were busy. Some of the days were busy to the extremes that you have to eat your lunch while doing work. There were a few days when you don't have as much work to do, but those are the days when you can be proactive and ask for more or help your colleagues that are struggling with the workload.
My team fully trusted me with all my tasks. After my handover I was left alone to do everything and of course if I needed some help I was always able to ask for it.
My skills might not help me with my degree as I am studying psychology, howerver, the experience I had helped me understand what I want from my future career and the skills I've gained during my placement will help me with my employement in the future a lot.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was mostly fun, however, sometimes it was a bit too stressful.
The placement was well organised, but it depends a lot on the student before you as well. If the student was not motivated to prepare for your coming the transition could be a bit difficult.
We did not receive much official training. After the handover we just had to go with the flow. Unfortunately, more training in some areas could've been helpful and timesaving.
Company Parties/Events
There are a lot of interesting opportunities within the company after your graduate. Also, you can go abroad and work for the company.
The Culture
The communication between students is generally good. Of course you can find that you might not get along as good with some of them, but due to the company events happening throughout the year you have to communicate with them a lot.
The area I lived was not very social unfortunately, but there are a lot of sport activities you can do around. Also, my town was very close to other bigger cities as Oxford and Birmingham which was good.
There is only one club and a few nice pubs. However, there are frequent trains to Oxford where you can easily go partying.
If you like sports, there were a lot of different sports activities that you could join-gym, dancing, jogging etc. The company also organised a football club if you are a fan.
