The Role
At times my work was monotonous and uninspiring, however I had numerous projects that were a challenge (which I enjoy) and so overall I did enjoy the year.
Many colleagues treated the interns as they would anyone else, however some were reluctant to dispense work to us.
I had very little in the way of support/guidance from my manager/supervisor
I spent a lot of time at my desk waiting for work or without much to do, but then there would be instances where everything would pile on and once and I'd have a lot to do.
I had a huge amount of responsibility in the 2nd half of my placement when working as the acting HSE manager, which I enjoyed as it pushed me to do well.
I did not receive any training, however the skills I have acquired and built upon are transferable to many places of work, and I know that they will help me with acquiring jobs in the future.
The Company
Our office was a good mix of 'this is a work environment, and you are here to work' and 'fun banter'. However whenever HR came upstairs it would become more sombre and serious.
My placement was not overly well organised, I had no manager for a lot of my placement and HR were not very good at keeping us interns updated with changes that would affect us.
I had no personal training and was not invested in.
I do not intend to continue working for Faurecia as it is not the type of industry I want to work in.
The Culture
All of the interns and postgraduates working in our plant got on extremely well.
Cost of living was expensive when compared to our wages, and the cost of socialising depended on where you went, but also tended to be quite expensive.
Lichfield was a rubbish night out. Nightlife in Birmingham was good fun but pricey.
There were a few opportunities outside of work, we had an intern 6 a side football team and we regularly got together on weekends.
