    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement enormously, I have felt valued as well as developing key skills. My role in the Software Channel was critical in the success of the department and the opportunity to explore various of other aspects of the business was plenty. I would recommend to anyone thinking of doing a placement.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues, most of who have been working for IBM for a long period of time. There are occasional people that do not have the same respect because you are an intern but they are very rare and the overall experience is being felt valued.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You are given two managers, a task manager and an early professional manager. The early professional manager gives you specialised support and guidance throughout the year. You can speak to them at any time, you just need to arrange a time slot. This helped me feel reassured my growth was a high priority for the business.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Business varied from day to day and month to month. My role was particularly focused around the end of the quarter, so I was most busiest during that time. However, even during my quietest days, there was always something to be doing. My daily tasks always kept me busy as well.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibility I was given was quite a lot. One of IBM’s competencies is to take ownership so there is plenty of opportunity to do so. The forecasting packs you are in charge of give you a critical nature to your role so it is crucial you take responsibility for the quality of these.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the skills I have developed will assist me in my degree and future career. I think time management is a big factor here and it will help me during my final year at university. The communication and interaction skills will assist me a lot during my future career.
