About You
I was very excited to start my internship at Unilever as it was my top choice in terms of having a spring week. It was interesting to see how a large corporation with many brands handles their supply chain. I have learned about what I want to do in the future thanks to these Insight Days
I was positively surprised by the kindness of employees and advisors who were always there for us and encouraged us to ask questions. They have all taken their time to sit down with us and especially the dinner with senior management showed the genuine interest of the company in their interns.
The guidance was plentiful. I think this was mainly due to the fact that we had supervisors who were there with us throughout the internship and answered all our questions. Furthermore, I always felt that I could talk to other graduates on their Future Leadership Graduate Scheme and ask them more personal questions.
I have experienced the most growth in soft kills in my point of view. The business information is only to a certain extent applicable. My leadership skills have definitely improved, along with my communication and public speaking abilities. I had many opportunities to along develop my time management and inter-personal skills, which will be helpful in everything I do in the future.
The Company
The Spring Week Programme at Unilever was very structured. It followed a plan that set out every single event by date and time which I found really helpful. Everything from arrival to presentation was well structured. I liked the idea of splitting the interns into departments to get a more focussed insight.
I would describe the atmosphere as generally more relaxed than what I have experienced in my previous internships at larger organisations. The advisors were very young people as well, the employees and senior management all very kind which contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. The was no feeling of competition among the interns or any pressure.
The content was very valuable. We have gained an in-depth insight into the career field itself and our opportunities at the company. In my opinion, the best thing about the spring the programme at Unilever is that you will not only listen to boring presentation. There activities that are designed to real life challenges and it will give you a proper feeling for what you can expect from a career at their company.
Everything Else
Unilever is very fair in terms of reimbursing expenses. The amount is more than enough to cover your expenses adequately. You will not get paid, but it I think it the experience that is far more valuable. However, you will not pay for anything during your time there as everything including accommodation, transport or food is provided.
The networking opportunities were many. However, there was one particular that I have enjoyed. It was the dinner with the senior management were we were divided into our department and had the unique chance to ask them all our questions, thoughts and have received tips for our future which was a great experience.
I would recommend this internship to my friends easily. It was very well structured and I didn’t pay anything because accommodation and travel expenses were reimbursed. The networking with all the people was invaluable, I have gained soft skills and a clearer vision of my career path that I want to pursue in the future.
