The Role
Enjoyed the placement. Gained valuable experience in the lab exploring a variety of chemical transformations. Only downside was that I felt very tempory as a staff member and did't always feel fully involved in the team.
Only had minimal interaction with colleagues which were not my supervisor.
Felt very supported during the start of my placement. Definitely eased the transition into the lab and helped me learn relevent techniques and gain confidence before I became an independent worker.
Varies alot throughout the year. Some weeks I had little to do, others I had lots and lots to do.
Responsible for my project only.
Definitely has improved my labratory skills greatly. I have subsequently recieved a First class Masters degree in Chemistry and accepted a Job in Medicinal chemistry which I doubt I would have been able to do without Pfizer. The experience has been invaluable.
The Company
Quite quiet. Minimal interaction and very focussed environment.
Very organised. Pfizer have lots of experience with placements and listen and adapt their schemes each year trying to continuously improve it.
I learnt a lot in the first few months, but after that I had less and less time invested in my personal development. It became very busy with university work and focussed on particular reactions that it became difficult to branch out and learn new chemistry.

Working from home
Very little job opportunities for graduates. Department appears to be budgeting rather than expanding.
The Culture
Very very good social life between interns from each department. Frequently spent evenings and weekends together socialising and exploring the area.
Fairly average. Definitely can afford it though with the salary.
Multiple places to go at the weekends to go out. A bit quieter than city nightlife but its quite nice to go out with all the interns. I would definitely recommend, but might not be for everyone. Canterbury is nearby with a bigger scene but can be expensive to travel back.
Only if you went out and explored yourself. Nothing work related.
