The Role
I enjoyed working at a reputable company although I did not enjoy my role.
Initially I did not feel highly valued within my department as I was unable to contribute due to lack of knowledge/expertise. Towards the end of my placement with increased responsibility I felt highly valued by my colleagues.
Initially I had a lot of guidance from my line manager as we sat opposite to one another. Later he was promoted so I had very little guidance for around 2-3 months. As my projects scope grew wider I found myself working with particular colleagues over and over again and they were more then willing to help me with anything I needed.
Initially I had no daily tasks which was very boring and frustrating, so I would have to ask for work daily. Towards the end of my placement I still was not satisfied with the amount of work I was given as I would still find my self struggling for things to do for hours in the day.
I was given a limited amount of responsibility throughout my placement, I do not believe my department trusted me to fulfil tasks that were really important to the company.
The skills I learned will aid me tremendously when completing university and working in a graduate role.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very cooperate and segregated as the workforce was older and had a wide variety of cultures.
Initially the placement was not organised well, but with a personnel change in the HR department this quickly improved dramatically.
The company did not invest a lot in training interns, there were very limited scheduled training programmes for interns throughout the year.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Future employment prospects are not appealing at all and do not seem likely.
The Culture
Yes there was a great social relationship among the interns and within teams (departments).
Costs are high in the area for accommodation, transport, food and socialising.
I did not experience the nightlife in the area I worked.
Not many.
