The Role
A thoroughly enjoyable experience, with plenty of tasks and projects to help with alongside friendly and welcoming people.
Everyone was so welcoming from the first day I walked into the office. I felt that all the worked I completed was valued and they were able to use the work I completed to their benefit.
I cannot fault the support and guidance I was given by the whole office, even from staff in different departments. Being in a small office meant there was always someone to help me and to talk things through with which was extremely beneficial in learning more about the company.
I was fairly busy on a daily basis, with a variety of different tasks.
I was given responsibility in the tasks I completed however, when on site visits I was with at least 1 other colleague who would take responsibility.
My ability to work in a professional environment and better manage my time has helped enormously in assisting my degree, along with developing my knowledge through more practical experiences and having the ability to relate this to my studies and in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was great, there was such a mix of times of working extremely hard, chatting about their jobs and the path they've taken to get there and non-stop laughter. It was great to fit into the team so easily and feel part of it by the time I ended my internship.
Being in a regional office meant I didn't have the same access to certain meetings and events as the London based interns. There was some mixed up with head office over forms but this was sorted quickly and efficiently. The internship was organised well, with my mentor understanding everything that needed to be completed and what was expected of me.
There wasn't a great deal of personal training or development, I was able to listen in to the main talks in London however, being in and out of the office so much I often missed them. I was able to listen in to other people's conversations and phone calls in the office meaning I could aid my own development in learning about different aspects of the company.
The graduate schemes seems very appealing and meeting the staff and working along side them has made the company a lot more appealing to work for. Getting a good basic knowledge of the company and a more in depth knowledge of the department I worked in has been valuable in helping me decide future employment prospects.
The Culture
I was the only student in the office and being a small, predominantly rural office meant there wasn't much socialising or out of work social scene. I did attend office events both at the office and outside of the office which allowed for me to meet the directors and chat with them and other members of staff.
Being in the North East meant it was cheap to live and work, luckily I could live at home during my internship and commute to work daily. Socialising was again cheap, but there wasn't a great deal of this so didn't cost much at all.
The office is in a small town, so not much happening nor a great nightlife.
I was in a regional office in the north east of England so there wasn't any opportunities to get involved in actives outside of work. The experience, I would imagine, is very different to those in the London office and means there isn't many placement students nearby to meet.
