About You
CMS is a really welcoming law firm that allows the participants of its Academy to develop into better lawyers and better persons in general. In addition to feeling welcome, the firm invests a lot of resources (financial AND more importantly the time of the most senior partners) into the Academy participants and the students feel very valued and welcome.
As I said above, I felt valued at every opportunity during the first week and the people I have worked with over the next two weeks appreciated any kind of work I did for them. I also loved the fact that the work that they delegated to me was real and therefore I naturally felt as part of the team and as part of the final product.
My supervisor, though extremely busy and working very hard, was great at guidance and as a role model. Her always found the time if I needed to discuss something and was surely the most influential person for my (personal and professional) development over the short period of time I had with him.
As I have just finished my Master's degree, this scheme helped me even more to understand the practical side of law and construction was (unfortunately) the most discussed practice area over the last few days after Grenfell. I have learned a lot about the construction contracts and the field in general and these skills will be valued anywhere, not only in projects, infrastructure or real estate practice areas.
The Company
GradRec team was great at making this all work and the people I have worked with in my team were all diverse and great people who knew what they were doing,
Friendly, helpful, professional, open
I already said it above, the firm invested so much in each and every one of us and I am not even sure whether we deserve it. It has been a pleasure to work with such great teams of CMS personell and the value that they invested in ourselves was a push forward to do even better to repay it.
The insight over the two weeks (8 days for me) was exactly what would be expected of a trainee and I am now ready more than ever to take up this responsibility.
Though not possible to say this about the whole company, every one of the people I have seen and met were exactly the ones that I could work with any time of the day. It therefore helped me understand what is expected from me and also what the work will look like on a daily basis.
It simply reaffirmed my long-term views that such a law firm is the path for me.
Everything Else
Yes, quite a few.
Sometimes too early (supervisors and trainees not able to attend), though extremely well organised and beautiful.
James (trainee) told me a lot about the opportunities re football and the gym.
