About You
I very much enjoyed all the opportunities I was offered during the scheme, You were given detailed important work to fully understand the day-to-day operations of the department you were working in. The lawyers were very supportive in giving advice and answering questions. In addition to this, the graduate recruitment team organized several entertaining social events.
I felt the partners, associates and trainees all very much valued my contribution during the vacation scheme. I was offered a lot of interesting work to engage with, which increased my knowledge of the relevant practice areas. The lawyers were willing to answer any queries you had and overall it was a very relaxed supportive working environment.
You received very detailed guidance on every task no matter how complicated the relevant transaction or litigation task was. You were given meaningful work that contributed to a greater whole and served an interesting purpose in helping the associates and partners execute their projects. You were also given interesting explanations about the bigger picture of the task you were involved in, no matter how mundane it seemed at first.
The skills developed were very relevant and applicable. You learned the value of strong team work, legal skills and commercial awareness. You got a really in-depth insight to the type of work done on a day to day basis with opportunities to get involved in a meaningful way. Such skills are thus applicable in every walk of life both within and outside the legal sector.
The Company
The insight was incredibly well structured. You had a detailed time table booklet given at the start of the insight and an online calendar to constantly keep you up to date if any changes occurred or new venues were set for the various scheduled events. The departments also offered work in a very structured and accommodating way.
The general atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. There was of course a very professional working environment but there was also a general sense of camaraderie or team work in approaching tasks in both big and small departments. Overall, there was a supportive interesting working culture for newcomers to fit into appropriately.
The firm invested a lot in not just explanations of the relevant practice areas from legal industry leaders in their field, but also detailed training on soft skills like presentations and client interaction. It was clear the firm took great pride in developing several generations of talent and investing in the future.
It could not have given a better insight about the full time role working in the company as you are given unfiltered access to various lawyers of different ranks, client matters and the resources the firm has to offer. Aside from the organized activities outside of the departments you were assigned to, you got a strong understanding in every daily interaction the type of work and demands on you in this profession at this firm.
You got a very interesting up close understanding of the culture of the firm on a daily basis. The insight offered you the chance not just in your interactions with the staff at the firm but also in the work you engaged with and observed being done by others; just how supportive and collaborative the culture at the firm is.
The content was extremely valuable in helping you decide a future career path as you get a very in-depth and unfiltered view about the inner workings of a world class ambitious law firm. You also experienced several presentations about day to day work within certain practice areas and departments, coming away with a detailed understanding of the mechanics of the contracts, client solutions and technology used to make the firm run efficiently.
Everything Else
There were numerous opportunities to meet employees of various ranks throughout the firm with detailed access to partners, senior associates and trainees in an open door policy. You could do this not just in the scheduled side events by the graduate recruitment team but also while working in your department, able to send an email to anyone you were interested in discussing with.
