Women in Technology Insight Week Review

I really enjoyed the Women in Tech insight week. It gave me an insightful look into life at KPMG and what it is like to work in the technology division of the company.

There was a very warm and welcoming environment from all employees I interacted with here. When I participated in the work shadow for a day, my opinions and thoughts were listened to and valued by senior employees and I felt like I contributed a lot in the week.

I received a lot of guidance and support throughout the week - any questions I had were answered thoroughly and I was continually checked up on to see if I was doing okay. I never felt bad about asking a question, which is important for me as an inquisitive person.

I learned a lot from the week, including communication skills, teamwork and leadership. While I found that the things I was doing and learning about were not entirely relevant to my degree course, the skills I learnt will definitely help me in my later life as the skills are highly valued in a professional environment.

The insight week was well structured and there was a clear plan given to us of what was going to occur throughout the day. While some things weren't as productive as they could have been or dragged out for a while, overall the structure was good and very organised.

The atmosphere at KPMG was very good. All of the employees, no matter how senior they were, were very helpful and incredibly nice, and you did not feel inferior to anyone in any way. The people on the insight program were also very friendly and the environment was very welcoming in general.

The company had a lot of directors come in to talk to us about technology and what kind of things we would have to do and how we should develop as people. There were many talks on communication and presentation.

The work shadowing day really gave me an insight as to what a day at KPMG would look like. I developed a better understanding of what things I would do if I were to work at KPMG, whereas my prior knowledge on this would not have been so good.

The insight helped me understand that the company is very welcoming and has a more relaxed environment compared to other companies.

Before I came I was unsure of what things I would want to do in my future. Now I know that I want to go into consulting and what kind of skills I need to develop into this profession.
