The Role
The placement I undertook for 12 months was an extremely enjoyable and challenging experience. It was a great opportunity to experience working business life within a fast paced, cutting edge company.
Every colleague that I engaged with treated me with respect and I was viewed as an equal within my working division. I made a lot of friends within the company.
If I ever needed any support it was always there on hand for me from colleagues or my line manager. Nobody was ever unwilling to help and even if I didn't ask for support, I was always asked if my manager sensed I ever needed any.
Some days were very active and busy but it was mostly steady flow of work which was efficiently dealt with as a collective team. Although on one or two occasions there were days with low levels or work, or high levels of stress due to too much work.
As my placement progressed, I was given more responsibility. In several instances, I was initially accompanied by a colleague or manager to perform a certain task or a process and then eventually ended up taking it on 100% as my own.
I feel that the skills and experience I have drawn from my placement are very much transferable and can be adapted to future work and also applied into my final year of degree studies. An example of one of these skills would be time management (prioritising, developing work-rate efficiency etc)
The Company
The office always normally had a friendly atmosphere, so for the most part it was a brilliant environment to work in. There were one or two times when the workload was so high that people had to focus solely on completing tasks so it became too busy to notice any atmosphere!
The placement, in my opinion, was very well set up as I was introduced to many opportunities throughout the 12 months and felt I was progressed work-wise at a steady and achievable rate over the year.
I was trained to use several bespoke software packages as well as being sent on several courses from which I gained additional qualifications.

I would very much like to take up a future working role within the company I have completed my placement at.
The Culture
There was a great balance between work and play, which was in no way hindered by the age range of people who were involved. There were people of all ages engaging in social activities inside and outside of work and it was extremely enjoyable! This varied between sports such as Football, Rugby, Golf, to nights out in bars, cinemas, restaurants etc.
The cost of socialising was fairly expensive, and the cost of living and paying rent was quite high. This was the only downside to the area in which I lived and worked.
Lots of very nice bars and clubs as well as a huge range of resturants.
There were many activities to get involved in, some of these were social activities whereas others were company-related, such as charity events.
