The Role
My placement at Hays has been fantastic and allowed me to gain vast experience over the year. I have enjoyed the responsibility I have been given with the chance to run my own desk. Every single day is different at Hays and is what makes the job so exciting. I have learnt so much and this internship has allowed me to grow as a person which will help in the future.
I was made to feel like a full time employee and this was something I really enjoyed about the placement. My work was contributing towards team and business targets and I knew that I had to meet and exceed my targets to support the team and the wider business. Excellent performances are recognised with rewards which really shows how much each individual is valued. This year felt like so much more than an internship it was like a full time job.
The support was fantastic from day one. There was training from the word go and I attended two off site classroom training courses. Alongside this there is on the job training daily and constant support from all senior members of staff. I had weekly monthly and quarterly meetings with my manager and my directors to discuss progress and any areas for improvement.
Very busy, but this is what made the job so exciting as long as you remain organised being busy is enjoyable. There is always something to do. Although the hours are long the time goes so quickly every day due to the amount you have to do. There is always someone looking for a new job or someone looking to hire someone in to their organisation.
I was given so much responsibility as an intern at Hays, it was a lot more than I ever thought I would be given, at first this was slightly daunting but the amount of responsibility I was given allowed me to push myself and grow within the role. I essentially have ran my own mini business within Hays and what happened on my desk was my responsibility and this made me work harder
I can honestly say this internship has taught me so much. It has allowed me to grow as a person both professionally and personally. I have grown in confidence and feel this will be a huge asset to me in the future. I have understood how a global business operates and got to experience various management styles which will help with my degree.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is fantastic, there is a real buzz, everyone works very hard and there is never a time when the office is silent. There is a very driven and motivated workforce. As well as the very hard working atmosphere there is also times for fun there is always incentives to work towards and a real collaborative feel. Everyone is very friendly and supports one another
The internship was set up very well. Within my first week all the interns from my region attended training together to get to know the other interns, this was a fantastic way to break the ice and build up an intern community. There was constant on the job training assisted with a training and progress booklet which was reviewed on a weekly basis.
The company invested so much in to me. I attended two off site classroom training courses which both lasted a week. I also received constant on the job training from a number of different senior managers and directors. There was also a full training course online which I completed all of this training and experience has stood me in good stead for the future.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
There are opportunities around depending how you perform during the year. There is opportunities within Hays to come back to the business after your degree. I have been selected to act as an ambassador for Hays when I am back at university. There was other opportunities which you can apply for after being an intern at Hays.
The Culture
Yes there was a very good social scene but only when suitable. There is always someone going for a drink on a Friday night which allows the chance to relax and reflect on the busy week we have all had. There was a number of meet up arranged with fellow interns in the region which was always very enjoyable. There is also the opportunity to take part in business activities.
The cost of living and socialising was very reasonable there are many business people in the area so the prices are all very similar in and around the city.
The nightlife is very good in the area and it is very affordable and safe. There was a number of work nights out which the office attended.
There was a number of charity events which we were able to get involved in such as charity walks, runs and fun days.
