    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the work immensely as a Perimeter Operations Analyst. I constantly felt challenged and excited with the work I was doing.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were extremely supportive and were always there to help. The majority of them were based overseas so I could have phone calls/IM conversations at any time and they were always there to assist me.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager gave a ton of support and guidance throughout the year. We had weekly catch up meetings where he would ask me how I was doing/ anything I need help with. We would also have monthly checklists to track my progress.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was quite busy on a daily basis. There would be periods of downtime but I never felt like I had nothing to do and I could always reach out to my team for more challenging work if I needed it.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility/freedom during my placement. I could freely solve issues on my own without much interference. The only time I would consolidate with other members was for another set of eyes to review my work to make sure it's correct.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I received during my placement are skills I'll have for life. My understanding of Network and Security concepts has been on the uprise because of this placement and will help me not only in my final year but for future career opportunities

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere of my office was extremely pleasant. A lot of friendly people who were always willing to help and had history with eachother so it was fun to listen in and be part of that atmosphere.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was extremely well set up. I had a previous placement student train me for 3 months to pass over all the knowledge I needed to know.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In terms of my personal training in development, GSK put a lot in to help support this. I would have frequent calls with members in my team to help train me and support my growth throughout the year.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future job prospects with GSK seem very appealing/possible. My line manager said to keep in touch and although he can't promise anything if there are any job opportunities in the future after I finish university that I should keep in touch.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was pretty good among placement students. We had a programme called IPUnite in which placement students set up events such as Christmas Parties.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living wasn't too great. London is a very expensive place to live compared to what I'm used too and I struggled with cash more often than not and that did affect socialising.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Brentford wasn't that great. We would often have to go to Central London in order to experience the nightlife.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were quite a few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work such as some sports events.
