The Role
Faurecia has enabled me to learn and grow as an individual. I have found that the working environment is very hospitable and have thoroughly enjoyed working and enhancing my controlling and finance knowledge during my industrial placement.
I have found that as a placement student at faureica the company still value every individual as an employee and ensures that the work they do is appreciated by all. this was shown by faurecian of the month awards and improvement ideas awards given out.
All managers in the plant work hard to ensure all employees feel welcome and have enough support provided to the students. At the beginning of my placement I had no stable manager but in august a new financial controller started and I found that the controlling department was much more organized with a clear direction.
Being a part of the controlling department at the beginning of my placement was very difficult as I had no stable manager. in October a new finance controller started and I found that throughout my whole placement I have been very busy with new tasks and projects to work on daily.
The finance and controlling department have many tasks to control. I have found that as a student I have been given a lot of responsibility. I was given the project by my manager to control all costing's for the new 18 my project starting this year. I have also found that a lot of the tasks I have completed are highly important for the day to day running of the business.
The skills I have developed whilst on my placement year will assist me for life. I have enhanced my computer skills and am now competent using SAP and excel. I have also improved my communication skills by being pushed to communicate on a regular basis with different departments and managers.
The Company
the overall atmosphere in the office was very relaxed and a nice place to work. I enjoyed coming to work and everyone in the workplace was friendly and helpful if ever I needed any assistance.
the run up to starting my placement was handled very well. there was a uk HR student that organized all of my interviews and I received a starter pack with uniform choices. the first day I had a full induction at the plant. in the first week of placement the students from all plants were given a day to learn about the company as a whole and how they function which was very useful.
As a controlling student I was lucky enough to be able to travel to the Beaulieu plant in France to undergo some costing training. this was provided to me by my manager in February and whilst on this training I was able to see how the junior controller in beaulieu ran processes and tasks which were not done in this site. I was then able to use and implement these processes when I came back.

Faurecia offer two very interesting graduate schemes. VIE where you get to work abroad for up to 18 months and the UK Graduate scheme. I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would definitely think about coming back into the organization for future career prospects
The Culture
There were 7 placement students whilst I was on my industrial placement and three graduates, the company also had some French VIE students working for them. I found that in my workplace all of the students became very close and often organized events among ourselves to integrate with each other which made work a more enjoyable place.
I was lucky enough to be able to live at home so did not incure any living costs. however when going out with the students I found it very cheap in the area I worked. This made it very easy to meet up after work and socialize with students from my plant and others.
As students we arranged several work nights out. we found that the nightlife in the area is not very good but a train to Birmingham is not very long and would often go out there.
Not really, but as the students I worked with were very sociable we would often arrange to go out as a group to Birmingham to spend time with each other and get involved with different activities.
