The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement. The internship offered a wide range of opportunities and my manager was hugely supportive of me getting involved in any and every opportunity I could. Over the year I have developed and learnt a huge range of skills. It has made me far more employable and allowed me to add value to the company. The location and number of other interns meant it was easy to make friends.
As an intern at IBM you are truly valued. My colleagues all understood the importance of interns completing the key tasks on which the business functions. IBM's commitment to hiring interns shows their dedication to help train new generations and make use of the resources to ensure we are educated and capable of adding value to IBM and other future roles.
My task manager was hugely helpful. First in welcoming me and making me feel comfortable as a new member to the team. She ensured I fully understood my role, the structure of IBM and the changes to the business. She also outlined the business value of each task I completed.
I always had work to do. And if at any point I found I had more capacity it was easy to get involved with more projects.
As soon as I understood the business I was given lots of responsibility. Completing tasks that if found inaccurate would have hugely disrupted the department.
The skills I have developed this year will be invaluable. Particularly in understanding the step up from part time jobs. The ability to manage my workload to ensure a healthy work life balance will also be very useful in my final year of univeristy.
The Company
The atmosphere was relaxed but professional. You could see everyone working hard but also developing relationships with all levels of employees.
Very well structured.
I was largely responsible for my own learning from my team, online platforms and by reaching out to other employees.
Financial Bonus
Working from home
Very appealing.
The Culture
Very good social scene as there were so many interns on location. Including a Christmas party.
Very high living costs and social costs.
Very good nightlife, though expensive.
Many.
