The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at IBM, it gave me lots of experience and transferable skills that will greatly aid me in obtaining a graduate job.
My colleagues were excellent in providing advice when needed and always happy to increase my exposure to the client facing side of the role.
My managers were always very helpful and gave me lots of advice. They included me in upper management meetings and did the utmost to ensure that I was introduced to as many people as possible.
During my placement my workload varied, however, if I ever found myself short on work all I had to do was ask and there would be plenty of tasks to fill my time.
I was given an increasing amount of responsibility during my placement, starting off with almost none and finishing with an abundance of access to all areas of the sales process
I have definitely developed my time keeping skills, and I have become far more confident when meeting new people and really improved my presentations skills.
The Company
The office was very friendly, and you could always find someone to answer any questions you have. However this was definitely a place of business and everyone is expected to maintain a low noise level and respect other people on phone calls.
IBM is very well geared towards interns, graduates and apprenticeship students. There are plenty of groups to join where you can meet other interns. There is also plenty of training available to everyone, allowing you to learn anything about the company and its history.
Everyone is required to do a minimum of 40 hours of personal training and development, This can be anything from coding to learning leadership skills.

Company Parties/Events
Working from home
All interns are encouraged to apply for a graduate job, and there is a separate application for interns that wish to join as a graduate. It is based on your performance from your intern year and you are encouraged to ask managers to consider you when hiring graduates.
The Culture
Yes there was always plenty of people to speak to, and the interns develop friend groups whom they speak to outside of work and often keep in contact after completing their placement year.
As I commuted from my parents home, the living costs were very low and the most expensive part was commuting, costing about £300 per month for a train ticket. Drinks were fairly expensive, however to be expected in London. We often went out in Shoreditch, as it was cheaper and had a wide range of places to visit.
There were may places to visit as I worked in London, however most were quite expensive and required traveling around a lot.
There were a few opportunities to get involved in social events and a couple of sports event, but not many,
