The Role
The placement was an excellent experience and I believe that you are given more responsibility to excel than in most other placements, being able to run your own desk/business and earn your own fees with contribute to company and team targets.
I feel very valued by my colleagues as I am not treated at all like someone that is not a permanent employee as I contribute to team fee targets and I am under the same performance targets as everyone else. I also play a role in mentoring new associates.
My manager gave me great support throughout the placement and they have allowed me to excel and thrive in a full 360 degree recruitment role.
Sometimes I was very busy and meeting the different targets were difficult as it meant that you really needed to plan your day effectively and the hours are quite tiring at the beginning.
I was given as much responsibility as any other employee, i was allowed to talk to any client in my sector and generate business from then, i was fully trusted in representing Hays in client meeting and placing candidates with them.
The placement has given me skills for life as it is great sales experience and I honestly feel like a more rounded and mature person than when I started. As i study economics it was not easy to relate to my degree but the training and experience has been great for my development.
The Company
The office atmosphere was usually lively as most people are on the phone talking to candidates or clients.
It was well organised but very different to how i perceive other placements as all interns are set up on the same path as the associates, you are also given help and support whenever needed.
Hays invests a lot in their interns, the training they give you is the same they give their associates and it can be intense but they honestly care about helping you become a great consultant in your time there.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Hays have stated that they would like to have me back as an associate and when an intern returns as an associate, they are put on a fast track promotion scheme for 6 months rather than 9 months.
The Culture
The social scene here is very good as the majority of employees are between 20-30 so everyone is very like minded and as it is a target driven role, there are great incentives for hitting targets such as end of the month drinks.
I was working in London Victoria so it was relatively expensive to socialise but I was living at home so it was not too bad but for others I can see it potentially being an issue.
London is a great place to work at the age or 21 especially to people who are not from London, it is different for me but the nightlife is great even if it is expensive!
There are many opportunities to play football with colleagues and the office arranges pub quizzes.
