About You
As Unilever was not my first choice when it comes to doing an internship, it did not really think about what to expect. I was positively surprised concerning the overall experience I had at Unilever. The organisation was just awesome. There were other interns as well with who I collaborated and the team I worked with was really knowledgeable and friendly.
I felt really valued overall. I was astonished about how much time people spent with us, considering their opportunity costs of doing that. My internship was inventively organised. Hence, I had a lot do to and learned a lot. Despite some exceptions, everybody was nice to me and eager to help.
Guidance is a difficult word. As I said, people were happy to help. Furthermore, goals were clearly defined. However, I was free to solve problems and tasks however I want, and I see this as very a positive aspect as you cannot develop as a person unless you face difficulties.
Throughout my interhsip, I did not gain a lot of new technical skills since these were required in ordert o get the placement, however, I gained a lot of new knowlege when it comes to problem solving, conceptual thinkng and people skills. And I think this is exactly what counts in an internship.
The Company
The structure of my insight was good. Communication and information flow were well organised and I did not face a work overload. On the one hand, I was required to work really hard, but as soon as I people realised that I put in all possible effort, people began to trust me and grant me more freedom.
The internship at Unilever was a great experience filled with friendly people. I completed a spring week at another company before this one and I can say that the atmosphere at the Spring Programme at Unilever was hands down more pleasant. Senior managers took their time to network with us and graduate took their time to hang out with us and give us tips to get into the company.
The company has invested many resources in me and I can imagine that this was not very cheap. We got presentations about career opportunities, activities were designed to get a feel for the department you applied to, senior managers took their time to get to know you and so on. Hence, the company invested a lot and I am thankful for this opportunity.
I can now imagine way better what it would be like to work for Unilever. We got a campus tour, talked to employees, had several activities designed to get to know the everyday life of the employees working there. Hence, it will provide you with a good understanding of the company. I can imagine to work for Unilever later
It goes without saying that you will get a feel of the culture of the company if you spend a few days there. The atmosphere is great, it has an open office, a gym and free ice cream. What do you want more? It was great to be part of the company even just for a few days and I liked it way more than working for a bank.
