The Role
Over the year I have developed and learnt a huge range of skills. It has made me far more employable and allowed me to add value to the company.
As an intern at IBM you are truly valued. My colleagues all understood the importance of interns completing the key tasks on which the business functions. IBM's commitment to hiring interns shows their dedication to help train new generations and make use of the resources to ensure we are educated and capable of adding value to IBM and other future roles.
At IBM you have 2 managers, one that you work you work for and one that supervisors you during the year. This means that there is always extra support if you have nay issues.
I always had work to do. And if at any point I found I had more capacity it was easy to get involved with more projects.
The amount of responsibility given to interns is really dependent on the individual. The individual can determine how much responsibility they want to take on. There is an opportunity to have lots of responsibility if seeked
The skills I have developed this year will be invaluable. Particularly in understanding the step up from part time jobs. The ability to manage my workload to ensure a healthy work life balance will also be very useful in my final year of univeristy.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was very quiet. Everyone seems to get their heads down and involve themselves in the work. However, during shadowing in IX the atmosphere was very lively and creative, so it really depends on what area of the business you are working in.
Very well organised considering the size of the organisation.
I was largely responsible for my own learning from my team, online platforms and by reaching out to other employees.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
very few graduate roles were allocated this year.
The Culture
There were 50 other interns in the office i was working in so social scene was very good.
Very cheap as I was living in Portsmouth
A lot more lively once uni started in September!
Many giveback opportunities were provided.
