The Role
Working at ProspectSoft for my professional placement year has been highly enjoyable. Before arriving, I was unaware of the aspects of technology, and the placement has broadened my knowledge on CRM, servers, and eCommerce, areas I can now take forward for future jobs. I enjoyed talking with a wide range of customers, and helping them use the system to its maximum potential.
My colleagues at ProspectSoft made me feel highly valued. I worked closely with two other placements in my team, and with our teamwork we balanced out our workload effectively, valuing each other’s skills. My manager was always on hand to help and allowed me to take on specific roles, making me feel a huge value to the company itself.
The placement began with a month’s training, which provided a high extent of guidance to the next 12 months of the placement. Throughout these months, I was able to ask various questions to not only my manager, but people in other departments in the company such as the support and development team. The support overall has been phenomenal and I never felt I couldn’t proceed with a task or process without guidance by my side.
Daily, I always had numerous tasks to carry out which kept me very busy, a good busy. These tasks ranged from carrying out demonstrations, producing quotes for our customers and providing a customer review meeting. Being busy kept me on top of all my tasks and a good pressure to complete them efficiently.
As a Customer Success Assistant, I was given a high responsibility in the team to deal with daily tasks with our customers, and review their CRM systems. Also, I was the main point of contact for our customers who used the email marketing solution, CommuniGator. I dealt with any issues, guidance and advice with email marketing, which made me feel highly responsible. Lastly, I was asked to manage the contact with our reseller, again handling sales and a wide range of issues. I feel highly privileged with the amount of responsibility ProspectSoft provided to me as a placement student.
I study International Business at the University of Sussex, which covers a wide aspect of business management. Working at ProspectSoft has allowed me to gain insight into how various companies (national and international) operate due to the high amount of conversations I had with Managing Directors, or perhaps Marketing Managers. I felt I gained real-world experience during my placement and I have really gained an interest in business to business relationships, an area I would like to further look into for my university studies and future jobs.
The Company
The atmosphere in the offices was calm, but highly hardworking. In general, there was a fun vibe in the offices and it made working at ProspectSoft highly enjoyable.
I felt the placement was organised very well. It began with a month’s training which provided insight into my role and the tasks I would be carrying out. Once the training was completed, I began my role as a Customer Success Assistant and was made aware of what responsibilities I would have. ProspectSoft have new placements arrive every year, therefore the company is highly organised with the experience of previous ones.
The investment from the company was balanced out throughout the year, but one area to highlight was the initial training provided. This consisted of demonstrations, tests and learning what the IT industry is about. I now feel highly confident about my knowledge in the technology sector.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Many of my colleagues were previous placement students, so the appeal for future employment at ProspectSoft was high. The Company does offer placement students to return, however not a graduate scheme which for myself is something I am considering.
The Culture
The social scene was great at ProspectSoft! When I first arrived, we had a Company BBQ and various nights out. Most memorable was the Christmas Party, which the whole company attended and I enjoyed socialising with my colleagues.
I lived at home during my placement year as I was close to the offices, however from other placement experiences it seemed the prices ranged from medium to high, with Oxford as the closest town.
Oxford is the closest town to the offices, and has a great nightlife due to the Universities there. I have been there both with and without people from ProspectSoft, with nights proving to be enjoyable with various bars and clubs.
Lots of opportunities! The boys had a football team, and myself I went trampolining every month with colleagues which was great fun! Many others did activities such as marathons, rock-climbing and fun-runs.
