About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my two-week vacation scheme with Taylor Wessing. All my interactions with TW lawyers were very pleasant and I gained much insight into the firm, as well as the work they do.
The firm was very invested in my personal development and this was evidenced by the numerous focus on sessions that were scheduled for us, as well as the interesting work I was able to do during my time at Taylor Wessing. I was also able to help out on some ongoing deals and was given quite a lot of responsibility during my two weeks.
The guidance received was excellent. Formally, there were focus on sessions to enable us to learn more about the firm's different practice groups. Additionally, my supervisors and trainee buddies spent time answering all my questions and sharing their experiences. Informally, even partners and other associates were very willing to help whenever I had questions about the firm's work or the deals they were working on.
My attention to detail was honed during the proofreading tasks I helped out with. Additionally, my research skills were put to good use when I was tasked to research some complex legal points. Additionally, my teamwork skills were put to test during the group presentation exercise. Lastly, I definitely developed my commercial awareness during the two weeks - experiencing firsthand how lawyers go about their work and understanding their clients and business were very useful. All these skills will be invaluable in assisting me in my legal studies and career.
The Company
The scheme was very well structured and planned. Our schedule was packed full of a range of activities - from focus-on sessions by the different departments to socials to allow us to meet more of the firm's lawyers, as well as scheduled feedback sessions with our supervisors to discuss our performance.
Taylor Wessing is a very friendly and supportive firm. Everyone was willing to answer my questions, even very senior partners, and I appreciated this very much. There is also an open-door policy and everyone seems sociable.
The firm was very invested in me. There were numerous focus on sessions to give us insight into the different work the firm does. Additionally, my supervisors always took the time to explain to me the tasks I had to do and the background of the deals, which aided my understanding immensely.
The two weeks has enabled me to get a snapshot of what working at Taylor Wessing would entail. I worked on the deals which the lawyers are currently on and was able to interact with many of their lawyers to find out what a full time role would be like.
My time spent working with two departments, as well as the socials, were immensely helpful in enabling me to learn more about Taylor Wessing's culture.
The scheme reaffirmed my conviction and decision to be a lawyer. I experienced working as a lawyer firsthand and can envisage myself doing this in the future.
Everything Else
There were numerous opportunities to meet lawyers at all levels - from trainees to partners.
They were excellent - the lawyers were very willing to share their experiences and the social events we had, the darts session and the dinner at Madison, were very enjoyable
There are numerous opportunities for TW lawyers to get involved in activities outside of work - from pro bono work to joining sports teams.
I would definitely recommend the Taylor Wessing Vacation Scheme to my friends.
