The Role
Most enjoyment comes from the network you create, very social intern scene, many talented people, you are sure to make some very good friends and colleagues, enjoyment of your team and work varies based on managers and team.
As an intern at IBM, there are many opportunities to go above and beyond and take on more responsibility, although usually nothing will be handed to you, it requires hard work and a pro active approach.
Support and guidance are great at the beginning to get you on your feet and adding value, you will be stretched though as a high standard and independence is expected from managers.
Busyness varies role to role, and as you build credibility and skills, but you can expect that your manager will want to give you enough work to keep you busy at least 70% of your time. You can always increase your workload with a little proactive action.
A lot of responsibility is given to interns as they build credibility and skills, you can become a full member of the team with the freedom to add new ideas and improvements as well as put your name to some interesting and fulfilling projects.
The skills gained at IBM are invaluable; in the professional world and beyond, your work product will come to high standard, you will learn process and how change is made in the business, your commercial awareness and technological knowledge will skyrocket and your professional etiquette, organisation and confidence will also benefit greatly. All in all you will be set up to hit the ground running in any professional level job.
The Company
The general atmosphere again ranges based on where you sit, most interns are allowed are not fixed desk and so can chose their general atmosphere.
IBM has one of the most fleshed out placement schemes with a lot of the guidance and structure supported by the foundation team, you will be assigned an early professional manager who will help you and your manager work together to have a productive year.
There is a massive amount of education available to interns at IBM with the chance to earn some qualifications, on top of this there are foundation projects which will develop 'soft skills'.

The Culture
Extremely good social scene.
London is expensive!
London has a great nightlife and interns are always going out.
Yes, there are both giveback (IBM based) and volunteering options, I lent my digital marketing knowledge to charities, mentored uni students and spoke at schools, you get a lot of opportunity to go out and give back.
