The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Golfbreaks.com. I came in hoping to get a wide range of skills and experiences and am coming out 12 months later having grown not just as an employee but as an individual as well. It has taught me so many things that I will be able to take back with me to university and into my career once I graduate.
One of the best things about working here is that every employee is valued equally. Since placement students are sitting at the same desk as a full timers and doing the same job, they are not treated "less" because of it, which is rewarding as it makes you full like a real part of the team. It does help that most people are of a similar age meaning that you can get on with not just placement students but everyone.
Working closely with my manager meant that I was able to get the guidance and support required to help me learn and grow. I was given tasks of great responsibility which show the levels of trust that my manager had in me.
How busy I was would vary on a weekly basis. When we had to prepare for things with strict deadlines the weeks leading up to this deadline would be very busy but right after things would slow down a bit. Overall I would say that I had a good work flow throughout my time.
The highlight of my time has to be organising a golf day for VIP clients. I was given the contact details for the person I would deal with at the hotel/golf club and using my experience from previous events that I had helped with I was able to run the show myself. This not only shows how far I have come over the past 12 months, but also the levels of trust that my manager has in me for him to be confident enough to give me the reigns for such an important event.
I believe that what I have learnt will be transferable to my time at university and beyond. Not only have I learnt about things that I can take into the business world, but also many smaller lessons that I would've never thought about such as email etiquette, dress codes, etc, the smaller things that rarely cross your mind.
The Company
It was a positive but competitive atmosphere. Being in an office that relies so heavily on selling, there was friendly competition between everyone and we were all working together to achieve the same goal. This helped as no one was stepping on others toes in order for them to succeed. In marketing, we would have biscuit wednesday every week and occasionally get percy pigs if the moment felt right!
Due to a number of staff members leaving the marketing department early on in my placement, I was given the opportunity to make a move over to the back office. Although the job was only created as a result of other factors, it was very well organised and it was great to get exposure in so many different areas.
Golfbreaks.com is a company that is driven by young workers, so the training that is offered caters for those types. It is constantly trying to improve and as a result even as a placement student you can make suggestions that the directors or managers may take into account. My favourite thing was the Directors Den, which offers £500 to the winning placement student who comes up with the best idea for the company. This did not have to be something that makes the company money, just something new. As a student, this is a lot of money and didn't take too much of my time so I was able to get out a lot from the overall experience.

This is a very attractive company to work at. Everyone gets along well and Windsor is a nice place, not too far from London. All of the workers are like minded people making it easier for everyone to get along and its a very social atmosphere.
The Culture
I personally didn't do too much with the other placement students, however I would be at socials organised through work. I would usually spend my weekends getting away from Windsor as I didn't like to sit still for too long so missed out on some nights out, etc. We did have football teams with the work and placement students which I loved!
As someone who is not from the South, I was shocked at the prices. The nearest/best shop for me was Waitrose, which is expensive and the cost of a pint is sometimes robbery, but Windsor is close enough to London to justify the prices without being London.
There are quite a few pubs and one or two clubs, although I never went properly out.
Yes, there were social football opportunities and also you could book golf trips and go with colleagues.
