The Role
Really enjoyed it, a lot of opportunities were given to me throughout my time here, and have gained a great insight to the working world and how large blue chip companies work. I also feel that it has set direction as to what I want to do and what path I wish to follow throughout my career, as before this placement I didn't really have an idea on what I wanted to do, where I wanted to do it, and how I was going to achieve it. This placement has really allowed me to focus on my future career.
Group felt quite cliquey a lot of the time, so it was hard to integrate yourself as part of the team on occasions. However, I would feel valued when I was assigned work and completed it to a high standard, just not on a social level at times.
My manager was very good at assigning work to me as I was placed on one of the busier brands. He was also very good at giving me previous examples of marketing and allowing me to set direction throughout my time. I have been trusted with a number of projects to plan, execute and run from start to finish which has been excellent experience for me.
This peaked at different times of the year, to start with when I was getting up to speed, I was not so busy but this changed towards the middle to end of the placement and I was too busy! So it did vary throughout my time. However, I would say that overall, I was kept busy throughout my time here and this ultimately allowed me to get the most out of this year.
Again, this varied throughout my time and with the workload of more senior parties in the team being stretched, my responsibilities increased. I also gained more responsibility by taking on different projects which sat outside of my direct team and worked cross functionally with other teams to progress my own learning from the year.
The skills which I have developed will assist me in my degree studies for certain. However, I believe it will assist me more when it comes to future career choices and adapting to life within a new role. The main skill which I have learnt on placement which I believe will assist me back at university is time management and in particular, prioritisation and understanding what is important.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very good in the office, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working in marketing. There was a general buzz about the office and there was quite a lot of banter about, which suited me to a tee. I feel like I thrived in this scenario and allowed me to work better with a team that I was able to get along with.
Very well organised. Initially, the start up period was organised by off boarding industrial placement students which allowed us to ask them about their times and experiences of the company, which I felt was very good. There was a good hand over from my predecessor and the management were aligned to how placement students would work and what their responsibilities would be.
The company were very good with personal development. As I mentioned, I would often have one to ones with my manager where practical examples of real life scenarios would be explored, such as profit and loss accounts and how to launch new products into the market. I found this very insightful and beneficial for my learning. The firm also allow you to experience other areas of the company where appropriate, which is great for development.

Very appealing, I will definitely be hoping to get a job with this employer. I have so far applied for as many graduate schemes as possible and hope to be successful. This is due to the extensive training they have allowed me to go on and the scenarios they have exposed me to throughout my time.
The Culture
There were many placement students at this company so the social scene was very good, yes. There is also a strong social scheme amongst the company, not just the placement students, I found this is nice and is one of the main perks to the role and enjoyed many a night out of social occasion with the company.
London - The cost of living is very high, however I could have picked an area further out from the centre. I did want to experience London life and living in the capital for the year. Socialising can be expensive, so it was about picking which events you would attend and which you were interested in, as most people would not be able to attend all.
Not great, however working close to London, it was easy to commute to a location which did have a good nightlife. With the night tube opening as well, we were able to commute back from nights out via this. Uber has also been a godsend to many, who are on a budget, as this has allowed many to commute into and around central london at little cost.
