About You
My passion for teaching was confirmed and I was able to observe lessons as well as participate when I wanted to. The teachers who I worked with were incredibly enthusiastic and happy to answer any questions I had.
Occasionally I felt like I was a slight nuisance to the teacher when there was nothing specific for me to do. For example, if the lesson plan did not require much help from a teacher there was not much for me to do. However, most of the time I was able to go around the classroom helping tables and individuals.
Most teachers were incredibly helpful at explaining what they were doing, especially in terms of marking, meeting learning objectives and behaviour management techniques.
The lessons I learnt from observing the teachers will help me with my own training and I began to develop skills for behaviour management.
The Company
The insight was very well structured for the first four days, however, the fifth day I was placed in the Secondary School for an Enrichment Day. Given that I want to be a primary teacher I would have preferred to spend the extra day in the primary school, especially as I had not had the opportunity to observe a Year 5 or Year 6 class.
All staff were incredibly enthusiastic, helpful and positive. I felt very welcomed by the community.
The internship was more about me observing than gaining any training.
The insight was very helpful in showing me what it would be like to do the Ark Teacher Training Programme.
The insight helped me understand how integral tackling education inequality is for Ark. The passion of the teachers was very clear.
The insight confirmed my desire to become a primary school teacher.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for travel expenses and my DBS check.
I was able to meet the Head Teacher and Deputy Head, as well as chat to all primary teachers during the lunch break.
There weren't any networking opportunities, but I was not looking for networking opportunities.
No.
I would recommend this insight to anyone who was thinking about teaching as it shows you honestly what being a teacher involves.
