The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Hays, particularly due to the high performance environment and employee friendly atmosphere.
I felt very valued. My colleagues appreciated that even though I was not a permanent employee I could still help out the team.
I was given tremendous amounts of support. Each week my manager would review my KPIs and identify areas that I needed more support with. Also, at anytime where I was struggling with a task my manager would be available to answer questions and clarify the process.
I was very busy as I had to achieve my monthly KPIs, which were broken down into weekly targets. My team would also give me ad-hoc tasks to complete throughout the day.
I was given a positively surprising amount of responsibility. When I first joined Hays I expected to not be dealing with external clients. However, as I progressed throughout my internship I was tasked with contacting candidates through email and on the phone. Many of my KPIs could also affect my colleagues performance, such as setting up events. Personally I felt that the responsibility I was given suggested that my colleagues trusted me, which made me feel like a valued member of the team.
The key skills I have developed at Hays are: time management, personal brand, work ethic, commercial acumen and my interpersonal skills. In order to keep up with the fast pace, high performance environment I really had to focus on developing these skills. Fortunately, I was given training that was of immense help. Going back to university feel I will be able to apply everything I have learnt at Hays. Being an intern at Hays has especially boosted my confidence, in both public speaking as well as helping me become an assertive decision maker.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very social. There was lots of laughter, followed by a lot more hard work.
Very well organized. On my first day I was given a plan of all the departments and tasks I would be involved with throughout my internship.
I felt that Hays highly invested in me. When I entered a new department I was given a full introduction by the respective manager. In regard to what the department does, as well as what tasks I had and how to complete them.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I would love to work with Hays in the future. When I first started my internship I interested in a job there, but not entirely sure. I would now be very keen to become a recruitment consultant, however I will evaluate what I want to do once I have completed university.
The Culture
The social scene was excellent. Colleagues were very inclusive with placement students. Myself, as well as other interns were always invited to company events and informal employee socialising.
The cost was high due to the area being London. However, relative to the experience and skills I have gained it was worth it.
The night life was incredible. Being central London there was a huge variety of restaurants, bars and clubs.
Yes. Hays organised events for employees to attend, such as the Tough Mudder run. There were also weekly boxing classes subsidised by the business.
