    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement year at HPE was an invaluable experience with a real exposure to management and sales teams, responsibilities that had effects on the organisation and a direct insight into working for a multinational.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team were great but more recognition would have been beneficial as an incentive/ reward for hard work and adding value.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Regular one to ones with my manage and many other in the company were approachable to help with personal development.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Reviews/ quarter end/ the way the financial year is shaped means that certain periods were definitely more demanding than others. Could definitely be more project work offered to interns when workload is minimal.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility in terms of ownership of important files/ data points for senior management - assumes accountability of where numbers come from.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Valuable excel skills were learnt to take back to University as well as a competent knowledge of the IT industry and HPE's strategy in the market. Confidence, presentation skills and other interpersonal skills were also well developed over the year, however i believe there could have been more training and opportunities for interns to get involved in customer facing projects to learn even more valuable skill sets.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Poor attendance in the main office with many people who hot desk working from home. Following expense cuts, office was busier but a bit of a shame interns didn't get much opportunity to go and visit the London office for team meetings etc. Towards the end of the year atmosphere improved with a new Site leader.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Good organisation but lack of consistency across intern roles (more opportunities to people in sales teams).

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company valued the work I put in to a certain extent, but offered little opportunity to get further qualifications or attend training/ kick off events that the company offered.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Not sure there is an appropriate role for me - all sales based are in Scotland and don't want to relocate.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, lots of interns - great community.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is an expensive area to live and the company wage was not great.

    2/5

  • Good access to London.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
