The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year. I have had an amazing experience and have gained invaluable skills that will be of great benefit to me in the future. I now feel much more confident about working in a professional environment and feel my employability has increased greatly due to the fantastic opportunities I have had to learn and develop through this placement.
I was given a really good level of responsibility whereby I felt like I was fully involved in my team and being challenged and stretched, but not so much that it was overwhelming. I also received a lot of support as and when I needed so I never felt out of my depth.
Through my placement I have developed a range of skills, both professional and personal, that will be of great use to me both in my university studies next year and in applying for graduate jobs in the future. I will definitely be able to apply what I have learnt this year to my university work next year and it has been great to be able to see how the theory I have previously learnt applies in practice.
The Company
I was given lots of different opportunities to develop, both professionally and personally. This included being given the opportunity to train to become a SIP (Science Industry Partnership) ambassador. Through this I was able to visit local schools to talk to students about careers in the science industry, which I found very rewarding and also greatly improved my presentation skills.
