The Role
Enjoyed working at HPE massively and was given some great opportunities to further myself. Management really value the interns and treat you as a regular colleague. The company has a great culture with some nice benefits, however the with all the internal changes in 2017 it has led to some cutbacks to benefits which I would see as the only negative about the year.
My manager was fully supportive and was keen to see me succeed. I was given the chance to make a real impact and after proving my ability, was given more and more responsibility.
Good support from management in terms of daily work. Always looking to help you improve, further your career and focus you on what you want to do in later life- difficult at first to get use to working within a team across the world who you may never see, but something that is commonplace in global businesses.
Business varied and was slow at times, however when I was busy the work given was a lot of responsibility
A real positive to this year for me was the responsibility given - working on huge projects and ones that really effect the business if it failed.
Really valuable skills gained and lots of first hand experience in front of customers. Training throughout placement and interested in retaining you as a graduate.
The Company
One of the best parts of HPE is the office which has over 100 across the country with 50 in Bracknell. This makes it a really social place to work and provides a good support system if you are struggling with tasks.
Great organisation and lots of support. Placement team genuinely seem interested in your career and want you to succeed. Upon joining you receive training from the previous years intern for a month, a laptop and a clear on boarding pack to get you setup for the year.
My manager was great and sitting down with me to discuss how I was doing, what I want to do etc. He gave me great advice in terms of my career and genuinely seem interested in seeing me succeed. I was sent to Erskine in Scotland, all expenses paid, to our EMEA business operations campus to do training and give an insight of what the graduate job would be like. I thought this was great and shows how much the company have invested in you.

Very appealing as you are guaranteed an assessment centre for the grad scheme if you are an intern. They really want to retain you and go out their way to try and do this. The only drawback is the grad scheme is in Scotland which puts a lot of people off, however if you do want to make the move the grad scheme is really well run, good money and fast tracks your career massively.
The Culture
As mentioned there is around 100 interns across the country, with 50 in Bracknell. There is weekly socials with other interns, days out and an intern ball at the end of the year. You may also have team drinks and dinner with your colleagues.
Rent is fairly standard for the south and so is drinks prices. Reading is where most interns go out which has a variety of bars and clubs, with decent priced drinks. If you pick the right places there is definitely some value to be had/
Reading is quite a good night out and is always more fun when the whole intern cohort go out. There are plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants and only 25 minute train to get to London.
Received some days out paid for, such as Royal Ascot, which was great. There was also a football team however they decided to stop paying for this! This is probably one of the negatives as there isn't benefits regarding gym/health.
