About You
Due to Barclays being one of the most interesting banking firms in my opinion, I was very curious and had kind of high expectations. These have been fullly fulfilled. Of course, I cannot know about my opportunity cost but I could not really imagine any other case in which my time is better spent.
During my placement I felt really valued. My work was really appreaciated, especially since I put in a lot of effort, For this reason, my work was actually used as a basis to consider further actions. In total I was an integrated and necessary part of the team which in my opinion is key if you want to learn a lot.
Guidance was good. I was always free to ask as long as I did not pose a dumb question which I could have solved on my own as well. But once you manage this, I could have asked anybody to help me out. The work environment was really relaxed, and above all people were really motivated.
The skills I learned are definitely valuabe for my later career. Basically, I lowered entry barriers to nearly zero for this specific industry, not because I know everything but rather because I know how people think and act and above all because I have an overview and know how to acquire skills fast. The skill to get skills is invaluable.
The Company
The structure of my insight was good. Communication and information flow were well organised and I did not face a work overload. On the one hand, I was required to work really hard, but as soon as I people realised that I put in all possible effort, people began to trust me and grant me more freedom.
I think the atmosphere was quite pleasant. Everyone was friendly and my fellow colleagues were all very open to network and to get to know each other. This made the few days more chill and gave everyone the chance to give their best without being ashamed to make a mistake.
The company has invested a lot in me which I think will be very beneficial in my future career path. We have been through several activities, we were shown presentations about the career possibilities and had the chance to network with employees. Through this I have gained valuable skills that will be helpful later in life.
It helped me a lot to decide about what I want to do later in life. I was very unsure about where life would take me but this internship gave me direction. I know now what it is like to work for a big company that is prestigious and all the benefits you’ll get when you are an employee there.
It goes without saying that you will get a feel of the culture of the company if you spend a few days there. The atmosphere is great, it has an open office, a gym and free ice cream. What do you want more? It was great to be part of the company even just for a few days and I liked it way more than working for a bank.
Everything Else
Yes, for sure! Anyone who thinks about going into finance will love this internship and will broaden your horizon. Furthermore, you can build great relationships and build up your network. It will be only interesting for people who plan to pursue a career in finance but it is still a great opportunity to meet motivated individuals.
