About You
HSBC is and has always been my favourite firm and hence I had lot of expectations. Luckily, none of these lead to me being left disappointed. I had a great experience, learned a lot and made lots of new friends. I became hands-on insights into what it is like to be a financial analyst and this is exactly what I wanted!
I felt really valued overall. I was astonished about how much time people spent with us, considering their opportunity costs of doing that. My internship was inventively organised. Hence, I had a lot do to and learned a lot. Despite some exceptions, everybody was nice to me and eager to help.
During my internship, I received a lot of guidance. I had a lot of time to talk to my contact persons which would always be helpful and even provide more insights than required. I was allowed to approach high-level managers as well which is what I did on a regular basis in order to get personal questions answered.
I am not sure if the knowledge I gained will help me with achieving better grades, since the insights I received are mainly of abstract nature and rather relate to soft skills. Furthermore, I was already capable of hard skills related to my studies. Still, the technical knowledge I gained, such as financial modelling, will definitely help me n my future career.
The Company
The insight was very well structures. At first, me and the other interns were introduced everybody and the facilities were showed to us. Afterwards, we enjoyed regular sessions with our contact persons and various events were organised for the interns. Also within my project, my supervisor communicated clear expectations and goals.
"The internship at HSBC was a great experience filled with friendly people. I completed a spring week at another company before this one and I can say that the atmosphere at the Spring Programme at HSBC was hands down more pleasant. Senior managers took their time to network with us and graduate took their time to hang out with us and give us tips to get into the company. "
"The company did invest in all of us which resulted in a very positive experience. There were very useful tasks and everything was so well prepared that it created the overall good experience. I was surprised by how much we were valued as ‘spring interns’ and I could definitely improve some of my skills.
"To a great extent. The presentations were really helpful to show the career possibilities and the group tasks involved real life tasks that showcased the daily life of the employees. I definitely want to work HSBC in the future and it showed my finally what this career path will be right for me. "
"The company culture was easily sensible because the exposure you get from being at HSBC for a few days. Every task, presentation or networking event was designed to let us get a feel for what it is like to work HSBC and what the culture is. This will helpful us to choose a career that will fit to our needs and so that we will not be disappointed later on. "
Everything Else
"This internship is a great opportunity for everyone who wants to learn more not only about HSBC but also about yourself. It is for students who strive to become better and want to educate themselves about what is out there. It is competitive to get in and requires hard work. For anyone who is not willing to do those above mentioned things, the internship is not right for you. If yes, I would give it a shot. "
