The Role
I felt that HPE gave me work that was challenging, but I also received the necessary support and guidance to work through the challenges as they arose. In addition to learning several valuable skills, I also had the opportunity to participate in other activities which helped me get to know the other members of my team.
I feel that my colleagues were supportive of me in my placement and made me feel like a valued member of the team. I feel I have gotten to know the members of my team both in my office and abroad, and I feel that I have become well acquainted with them.
I received orientation at the beginning of my placement which settled me into the role and helped prepare me for the duties I would be undertaking. I was constantly monitored and reviewed throughout the placement in order to identify areas of weakness and receive the help and support I required to work through them.
I feel that I was busy on a daily basis, and that I was rarely stuck for work. I was assigned projects throughout my placement which gave me objectives to work towards. In the event I had too much work, I was able to raise the issue with my supervisor.
I feel that my placement gave me a certain degree of autonomy, and that I had several opportunities to work both as an individual and as a member of a team. I feel that I had the chance to make a contribution to a real product that consumers would be using daily.
I feel that I have developed skills on my placement; technical skills which have expanded my knowledge and understanding of my field of study, and skills such as organisation, time management and responsibility, which are valuable beyond my job and will assist me not just upon my return to university but in all future jobs I undertake.
The Company
In general, the atmosphere around the office is very positive and welcoming; my colleagues were friendly, approachable, and willing to assist with any problems I encountered. I was able to approach the other members of my team with any questions I encountered and get the help necessary to work through it.
In regards to personal training and development, I feel that I received ample training and support for my development. In addition to the support and knowledge of my teammates, I was provided with reading resources and directed to online courses to train and develop my skills and expand my knowledge.
