The Role
Great place to learn more about IT and working in a global environment,
Good work culture based on respect, even though you are an intern, you are treated as a full time employee.
Was provided with support and understanding from my manager and team leader whenever I needed it,
Really flexible working culture; wasn't overloaded with tasks, so had downtime.
I was given considerable responsibilities, part of a progressive workload. Was able to lead small projects on my own and given independence, freedom and trust while doing it.
I believe the skills and experience earned will prove to be invaluable in completing my degree, securing a grad job and achieving a successful career start.
The Company
Corporate but relaxed at times, really respectful.
Although there wasn't a blueprint regarding how my placement was going to unfold (e.g. tasks/responsibilities were dropped/added as time went on based on my interests and what was available), I felt it worked well from an organizational standpoint.
Was given the ability to participate in intense training with the new graduates, as well as various online/F2F trainings throughout.

Working from home
Very appealing, if I manage to secure the right role for me in the right location.
The Culture
Didn't engage much with fellow placement students, but I could have if I wanted to.
I was based near Glasgow, so cost of rent and other living expenses was fairly cheap. Had to get a transport card which was a considerable expense, but in most instances you can get a lift to/from the office. However, travelling around Scotland is mostly accessible, fairly cheap and you can see some amazing scenery and historic locations (especially in the Highlands). Socialising probably costs just as much as most of the UK.
Not much of a nightlife person, but plenty of pubs/clubs if you are interested.
Plenty of volunteering opportunities if you are interested. Also, there is a matching scheme where each hour you volunteer gives you "cash" which you donate to charity of your choice.
