The Role
I have had an incredibly rewarding and exciting placement year at HPE. The company was a great place to spend 13 months of my life and you couldn't have asked for a more supporting and open workforce than HPE has. I will truly miss HPE and the people in it, and I believe that speaks for itself on what a fantastic time I have had.
100%- From day one I felt like a permanent employee and the team treated me as a valued member of the team. I was trusted with large meaningful projects and even decision making tasks.
I had regular 1 to 1 meetings with my manager and regular meetings with colleagues within and outside of my direct team. There are opportunities for people to seek mentors or just to set up some time to talk about career development. The company is very open therefore it's what you make of it, the opportunities are there.
There was always work for me to do. I had quite a busy schedule of daily work, however there was also a large amount of Adhoc work for me to do when I wasn't busy. I never found myself doing nothing, but if I was I went about finding work to do.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility during my time on placement. From providing data for country reviews to running meetings and overseeing change within the organisation.
Massively, my business acumen has increased exponentially over the course of the year and my confidence has also grown hugely, to the point where I can confidently converse with senior management in meetings and put my point of view across coherently and be impact full during meetings.
The Company
There was rarely a dull moment in the office, it is full of great people and I had a great time. The people here really make you want to come into work everyday.
As you would expect with a large multi-national- Brilliant. We have dedicated HR reps who do everything to get you prepped before you start and then are there for you if you have any problems over the course of the year. They also plan events for you which you can get involved in.
The company have specific programmes set up for this exact reason. I attended multiple training days which really helped with my development.

HPE have a broad range of graduate and entry level roles. They have specific schools such as Sales school which is specifically designed to develop HPEs future salesforce. However there is also a broad portfolio of opportunities spread across the organisation.
The Culture
There was over 50 interns living in and around the reading/Bracknell area therefore there is always someone up for something. I had a great social life whilst at HPE, could even go as far as saying it was better than at uni.
I paid £400 for a 7 bed house in a student area close to reading town centre. However reading is in close proximity to London therefore you pay a slight premium for that luxury, however if you plan smartly there are multiple cheap nights around.
The Reading nightlife is ok, quite varied in club/bar styles, and you are sure to have a good time. Since being here there seems to have been a large amount of investment to the centre, with new bars and restaurants opening, so hopefully it will continue to improve.
Yes plenty, however it's what you make of it. Not many opportunities are handed to you on a plate (some are), but plenty can be found if you push yourself.
