About You
I very much enjoyed the insight due to the friendly personalities of both the DLA Piper staff and the other people doing the placement.
I really felt like the firm wanted to see the real you and have you perform at your best.
There was always help on hand if you needed it.
Working in such a professional but friendly environment quickly taught me the kind of behaviour expected in commercial law firm as well as giving me an insight into the real life work of lawyers.
The Company
Generally well structured, however the work needed for the presentations cut into time that could have been better spent gaining more of an insight into my seats.
DLA Piper staff and summer students alike were all very friendly and welcoming.
The fact that we were given talk by very senior members of the firm and extensive seminars on presentation skills and diversity (just to name a couple) showed that the firm really wanted us to gain skills and also demonstrate that everyone in the firm had an interest in us, no matter how senior they may be.
During my two seats and after hearing daily speeches from senior staff, I feel as though I got a very good feel of what it would be like to work with DLA Piper.
DLA Piper has a distinct company culture that it noticeable very quickly.
Every day helped to reinforce the thoughts I have about my future career path.
Everything Else
I was also reimbursed for dinner out in London up to the value of £20.
There were more opportunities during the week in London than when I got to my regional office.
The dinner in London was a great way to get to know senior staff and to talk to any other people on the summer placement that you hadn't spoken to previously.
We had various talks about groups like the Global Leadership Alliance for Women and Iris.
DLA Piper put a lot of effort into us feeling valued and getting as best an understanding we could get of the firm in three weeks.
