The Role
I enjoyed the internship at Savills tremendously. I looked forward day to day for the tasks I would be set and how I would complete them. The employees at Savills, specifically my team colleagues were incredibly welcoming and helpful offering assistance and guidance when necessary. On the whole, I thoroughly enjoyed my month at Savills UK.
Understandably it can be frustrating having to look after or guide an intern working in your department for a month. However, throughout the last month at Savills I have felt welcomed and valued by all my colleagues. They set me work when they had work to be done and helped me through any tough tasks. They taught me a grand amount about what they do and how they operate. On the whole, I feel that I was a valued member of the team.
When there was support needed there was no shortage of help being offered. Regardless of whether I asked my mentor, associate director or even director of the team, I was supported and assisted in whatever it was that was in question. The team offered guidance with tasks I was set and also general office requirements and customs.
For the first couple days I had a fair bit of spare time. These days were spent settling in and understanding what the team do, how they operate and what projects are on the table presently. As the days went by, I was required to fulfil more work, harder tasks and more valued tasks allowing me to stay busy and invest time into the teams work.
Of course I did not become the front line of the department here at Savills. I believe that I was given a fair bit of responsibility through the work I was required to fulfil and via attending meetings and supplying summarised notes on the meetings. Moreover, I feel that when faced with an opportunity to be responsible, I showed my skills and maturity in order to comply with what the company expects.
During my summer scheme placement at Savills I developed some core skills and knowledge that I look forward to maintain and work on. A key skill I obtained is using Microsoft Excel at a higher level. The program is such a vital part of day to day work at Savills and I am sure in all lines of business too. Other skills and basic office customs too will be vital in the future and should come to use both at University and in future jobs too.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my department was totally balanced. The team are jolly and friendly personnel who look to have fun and enjoy their work which I believe is vital for success. However, when there is work to be done, the team buckle down and push through the work load in order to stay in line with deadlines and expectancies. The team also showed a very professional side when sitting in meetings and dealing/negotiating with clients.
The internship was greatly organised and arranged. The HR team had many events and talks arranged for the interns to attend and hear more about the company. The HR team also arranged drinking social events and constructive tours of the City of London with great tour guides. Everything was organised and prompt with instructions emailed to us whenever necessary.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
To work at Savills in the future is incredible appealing, especially following the summer scheme placement. The company are a world renowned international company who provide services throughout the world. Within the UK headquarters employees are friendly and helpful and seem to have large amounts of positive energy. This enhances the appeal of working at Savills UK in the future.
The Culture
100%. Drinking and social events were arranged and attended throughout the month at Savills. Sometimes the events were only for interns, other times with graduates and sometimes with full teams of work. My team had a team lunch where we spent time relaxing and enjoying ourselves rather than just discussing work events and tasks. This allows a good social atmosphere between the colleagues and teams.
