The Role
I had a great year at SAP. I met so many people who I know consider friends and was given such a valuable insight into a company that I never expected. I enjoyed it much more than I could have ever expected.
I felt very valued by my colleagues, I was made to feel part of the team straight away rather than feeling like the intern and not feeling fully involved. My managers were always happy to listen ot my opinion and valued it.
I was given guidance and support by my managers whenever I needed it. I had weekly/bi-weekly catch ups to make sure I was feeling okay with the work and wasn't getting overwhelmed by it. If I ever had a problem I was given the needed support which was great, especially in the first few months.
I was busy every day. There were some days when I had a bit less to do depending on the time of year and what our teams were doing, but then there were other times that I had to stay late so overall it balanced itself out and I always had work to do without feeling overwhelmed.
I was given much more responsibility than I thought I would be given. I was able to run my own campaigns and events which I never thought I they would let an intern would do. I felt as though I was valued like a full time employee and given the responsiblity to reflect that which was amazing for my personal development and confidence.
I developed so many skills over the year that will definitely assist me in my degree studies and also in my personal development. I became much more disciplined with my work and time management which I think will aid me hugely next year and also in terms of understanding the company I think will make my studies next year much more relevant.
The Company
The general atmosphere was fun and friendly in the office. People are always happy to talk and people are laughing. It is a very open office which I think is beneficial and people strike and good balance between work and play.
The placement was organised very well. I had a clear role to go into and there was work planned for me. My onboarding was also complete and gave me a great understanding of the company. I never felt as though they were trying to find work for me for the sake of it.
They invested in a lot. I completed a lot of training and was recommended skills and training to do. I was also included in all the team building and off sites we had so they did invest a lot in me.
