About You
Very enjoyable overall. The socials were excellent and well planned. The day in Paris was a lot of fun, had great sightseeing in it and wonderful food. Additionally, it must be said the theatre experience was unique and not something many of us would have done previously. Often, Q&A sessions with partners/associates were great fun too because they were charasmatic and engaging.
I remember during my final day standing around the coffee machine; a trainee came to us to ask how we were, whether we had any questions and invited us to contact him at any time if we needed anything. In general, this is the sort of supportive and communal atmosphere at Clifford Chance. Despite only being there for a week, I defintely felt as if the rest of the office cared.
The graduate recruitment team were outstanding in making sure we all receieved enough help for our questions. Firstly, we had many different opportunities to speak with various employees and staff througout the week - even every lunchtime was a 'networking lunch'. Additionally, they had a policy of 'anonymous' questions for partners which we could ask, which was fantastic if anyone was shy or had a contraversial question.
Being non-law, the information won't be that useufl to my degree itself, however the information gained will certainly be useful to my general career and beyond. The talk given on the finance department is especially transferable and will be helpful if applying for banks / investment firms. Pretty good just for general knowledge too.
The Company
I can't describe how outstanding the planning of this insight was. Every hour of the day was planned to a tee and ran smoothly. It was sufficently packed with information and breaks so as to make sure we were all up to date. The day trip to Paris needed to be executed well (as we had fixed train tickets), and indeed we ran into no problems.
As I said above, the atmosphere here was great. Everyone was supportive and you could almost feel the community spirit. Since we were told we're not competing against each other for training contracts, everyone was more relaxed and down to earth. The other staff we spoke to were very real, honest and open about their experiences which was fantastic.
In terms of money spent, the firm definitely splashed out on us throughout the week. Of course, since this was only one week it is difficult to really train us and develop people to a large degree. Perhaps it would have been nicer to spend more than 1 day in a practice area. However, the information given will certainly be useful for future development.
The brutal honesty of the firm was genuinely refreshing and gave some viceral insights into what a full time role will be like. After speaking to people, listening to information and talks I do feel like I know to a pretty good degree what a role would be like. However, I would have liked more than 1 day in my practice area.
We really good a fantastic snapshot into the company culture. This was partially due to the fact that graduate recruitment weren't in the room when questions were being asked, so we knew we were hearing a true represenation of the firm. I also really appreciated speaking to staff who gave us an honest breakdown of what their time at the firm was like.
The content was very good and packed full of information. It described what typical tasks a lawyer would do in various sectors, what skills you'd need and what the hours looked like. Additionally, we found out about other things like secondment opportunities which certainly have a part to play in career decisions.
Everything Else
£350. Other expenses such as Paris taxis were also reimbursed. Money was nice :)
Literally at almost every dinner or lunch or breakfast, we had the chance (if we wanted to) to speak to employees in various sectors. Additionally, at the socials often we spoke to associates or trainees about their experiences. Also, there was a chance to speak to the Chief Operating Officer which was really nice.
Really excellent. Read question above.
Occasionally heard about 'that party last night', which was interesting.
100% do it. You'll find out a lot.
