About You
I enjoyed my placement a lot. I enjoyed the work I was doing – particularly when I was exposed to the market research the team had done when, for example, I was proof reading the market commentary sections of valuation reports. I enjoyed the team I happened to be working in as everyone was very friendly.
I felt pretty valued during my time at Savills. I felt that when I completed a piece of work and completed it well, my team really appreciated it. My team were very good at showing their appreciation when I did work for them. However, I did not feel particularly depended upon.
I received a very good amount of support. Firstly from the Savills HR team who made me feel as though they cared whether or not I was enjoying the experience. My team also supported me in answering any queries concerning work they had set me and by setting me up with contacts in other departments.
I believe the communication skills I have gained through this experience will really help me working in property. I have had great practice during this experience in phoning up agents to confirm comparable evidence information. I believe I have greatly improved my confidence in talking on the phone to sometimes intimidating persons.
The Company
The structure of the insight was very good. There was a very good range of social events, networking events, departmental talks and desk based time. I felt that I was able to balance my time well between making the most of meeting people in other departments and learning about those departments, and contributing work to my team.
The general atmosphere of the insight was very good. My team was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere of the office was also friendly. Everyone was very willing to make conversation, even if they directors/ high up in the company. The other interns were also very friendly and I enjoyed socialising with them.
The company invested some time in me in terms of personal training and development. They put on departmental talks in order to develop our awareness of what each department in Savills did and the day in the life of someone working in that department. There were mid-placement and end of placement appraisals to check the progress of my personal goals.
The insight gave me a good understanding of what it would be like to work at Savills full time. It taught me that I would be treated as a professional in Savills, that Savills is a very social and friendly environment and that I am expected to be hard working
The insight gave me a very good idea of the culture of the company. It gave me an opportunity to learn the values that Savills stands for with regards to the way it treats its clients and employees and to see how those values are implemented and upheld on a day to day basis.
The content of the experience was very helping me I deciding my future career path. It has affirmed my choice in a career in property and has made me even more keen to apply to the Savills graduate scheme. It has also inspired me into considering commercial valuation/ valuation in general being a good career path for me.
Everything Else
I was adequately paid for the experience. However, this is because I was lucky enough to have accommodation for free in London. If I had not been so lucky, I believe that I would have struggled to live in London whilst paying for accommodation during the internship. Since transport is so expensive in London, it would have been a huge help to me to have my travel paid for.
There were many opportunities to network and socialise. The company did a very good job of organising social events for the interns and social events that encouraged the integration of interns with graduates so that we could learn about the life of a graduate at Savills. There were also a few networking opportunities such as the fee earners lunch, however I would have like more opportunities to network with people higher up in Savills
The networking and social events were very well organised. For the social events, a lot of free food and drink was provided and so it encouraged people to make the most of those events. The networking lunch was organised well since all the interns and fee earners were given name tags – this was very useful!
I found out a little bit about the activities that employees can get involved in outside of work – I discovered Savills has many sports teams to get involved in. I also believe there are charity sporting events and social events. Otherwise I am do not know that much about outside of work activities
I would recommend this insight to a friend. I enjoyed the experience a lot, felt like I learned a lot about Savills as a company, felt like I was actually contributing to the team with the work I did and that the experience has helped prepare me for a career in property.
