The Role
I get to try different projects at one go such as Nuclear, piping and offshore windfarm.
Atkins highly the importance of quality assurance. So often colleagues have to do detail checking of each other's work doesn't matter if you are a lead engineer.
My line manager constantly reviews the internship with me and sets objectives for me to achieve.
As my main project has not started. I have to constantly ask for work from my colleagues.
I had to ask for work constantly. If i do not approach people, I get zero work.
I learnt a lot of transferable skills. It will be useful for my future.
The Company
Everyone in the office is very kind and helpful. It feels like a home to me. And every week, there will be people bringing in their own bakes / food to share with people. There is even table football in the office to allow everyone to play with. Definitely one of the best experience among all of the internships that I have done.
They have standard structures and procedure. The first day we had our induction about the company. An induction checklist was even provided to ensure we know about the company well. Laptops, log in details are all nicely prepared. Very well organised set up.
I got some online training from the induction videos. Overall, my colleagues are willing to teach me on stuffs like how to operate on softwares, why are we doing certain task, and etc throughout the placement.

Working from home
As I am an international student, I am not entirely sure if I can get a job with Atkins despite them being a large company. My local colleagues on the other hand most of them did a year placement with the company before and are offered a contract to come back to Atkins for a second placement.
The Culture
Yes of course. We constantly organise social events among ourself. The company's social club also organises social events of all kinds at a constant basis. And most of the events were either subsidised or it's free!
Bristol is quite an expensive place to stay at. As I stay in the city centre, the rental itself is much more expensive.
Yes, Atkins constantly have volunteering work.
