The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time here in HPE. From the get-go everyone was super friendly and helpful and each day presented new challenges.
From the moment I began my placement my colleagues treated me as part of the team. Each week, more and more responsibility was given to me which made me feel more and more valued.
I was in the fortunate position of getting a particularly good manager here in HPE. Even though his calendar is always completely booked out he has always made time to meet with me regularly to discuss my goals and how I'm trying to reach them. Alongside this I was given a mentor during my time here which really was invaluable when trying to expand my skill set.
There's always something to do! It's as simple as that really.
During my placement I was consistently given more and more responsibility. I started off in a quality assurance role which involved reviewing test results and reporting on them and gradually worked my way towards development where I was given free reign to design and implement my own utility tool that is now shipped with our product to customers worldwide.
The skills I have development while working for HPE will no doubt stand to me in my future studies and career. I have learned to work as part of a team, how to balance commitments and expectations, how to develop software in an Agile fashion and how to write quality code in a number of languages. I can, without doubt, say that I have learned more in one year of working in HPE than I have in 3 years of University.
The Company
The office has a great laid back atmosphere. This, combined with the beautiful building, made it a lovely place to work.
Everything was organized well. My hours and responsibilities were always well defined and any meetings with my University supervisor were well catered for.
HPE invests a lot of time and money in all of it's employees, interns are no exception. Every two weeks we hold an engineering session about an area of interest where each member of the team is invited to learn from one another. Outside of this, every employee has access to Safari books where a number of courses can be taken. Training I have received from HPE includes training on continuous delivery, test driven development and even first-aid training.

The future employment prospects are very appealing within HPE. Because they are a multi-national company with offices all over the world I very much look forward to returning to HPE at some time, in some country, in the future.
The Culture
We had a sports and social club, and young employees network which were both great, but meet-ups only occurred once a month so I definitely think there could be room for improvement in this area.
The cost of living here in Galway, Ireland is reasonable. Rent can be quiet expensive and going out definitely isn't cheap but in comparison to Dublin it's pretty cheap.
The night life here is Electric. Easily one of the best places in Ireland to go out in.
Absolutely. There are a number of clubs within the company but I'm not sure how much they meet up outside of work.
